The US is highly dependent upon imported oil.  OPEC and Russia control over 40% of world oil.  Due to increased US oil consumption and oil imports, our nation’s strategic oil reserves of 513 million barrels are sufficient to replace only 53 days of net imported petroleum.  This leaves US oil supplies more insecure than ever before. 

Innovations that reduce oil consumption, particularly hybrid electric vehicles, are critically needed by America.  According to General Motors executives, the only barrier to more affordable, fuel efficient hybrid electric vehicles has been the search for an appropriate battery.

Lightening Energy is headquartered at the Picatinny Technology Innovation Center in Dover, New Jersey. The goal of the Picatinny Technology Innovation Center is to accelerate the successful commercialization of new products  by entrepreneurial technology companies and corporate development teams.  The Center is located within  the Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center of the United States Army.

The Lightening Energy team believes we have an opportunity to re-chart the future with breakthrough batteries for hybrid electric vehicles and other applications. 

Less energy consumption by motor vehicles would mean less need for imported oil.  Because the consumption of oil for transportation sectors outstrips all others,  improvements in transportation energy efficiency can help to reduce oil consumption and improve our nation’s energy security. 

Light duty vehicles consume about 97% of all gasoline, and this is roughly equal to 90% of all crude oil imports. 

Acceleration in the market penetration of advanced hybrid electric vehicles can reduce petroleum imports by up to 20%.

At no time in prior history has an emerging technology promised to help revive a major industry, bolster an economy, and improve the environment at the same time. The market for hybrid electric vehicles and their powering batteries have extensive linkages to broader economic, environmental, technological and market factors.

Our name "Lightening Energy" embodies the extraordinary spirit and creativity of our team.  It also represents our pursuit of power technology that is very high on performances while light on cost, weight and size.
